The Career Insights Club of Mahidol University International College (MUIC) hosted the “Speak Like a Boss” workshop for 20 students on November 14, 2025, at the Aditayathorn Building, focusing on effective speech techniques.

With Asst. Prof. Dr. Wankwan Polachan, a faculty member of the Media and Communication Program at MUIC, as the workshop speaker and facilitator, the session began with her asking the participants to introduce themselves and state their purposes for joining the session. She  then emphasized the importance of a strong script and confident delivery rather than the appearance of a speaker. She noted that audiences can sense a speaker’s fright, so voice warmups are essential.

Participants began the first half of the session by lying down on the floor to relax their bodies and focus on their breathing. They then stood up to practice deep breathing techniques and follow guided breathing/stretching exercises for three rounds before continuing independently for seven more. These exercises helped them to understand how breathing controls their mind and body balance. Ajarn Wankwan then moved on to vocal projection, teaching participants to utilize breathing techniques from the stomach to release and control their voice.

For the second half, Ajarn Wankwan discussed Script Development, explaining that a good speech heavily depends on a clear objective. She then introduced the structure of an effective script: Hook (capturing attention and establishing conflict), Climax (providing main points and justifying the claims), and Summary (ending with a call to action).

Ajarn Wankwan also underlined the significance of intentional blocking and presenting clear messages before concluding. The event concluded with the participants taking turns delivering a three-minute speech. Three volunteers presented their speeches after a short rehearsal. Each participant performed their speech twice, once before feedback and another after receiving guidance from Ajarn Wankwan.
