MUIC Model United Nations Club held “MUN 101 Workshop” at the Seminar Room, MUIC Building 1 on October 6, 2023.
This workshop session focused on foundational knowledge about Model United Nations proceedings, effective topic research and position paper preparation. The organizers managed to offer hands-on experience through a mock debate.
There was a total of 18 student participants in the workshop where they were able to learn about the MUN basics, its history, the roles of delegates, MUN’s significance, its evolution, the rules that shape proceedings, the rules of procedure, and different motions.
Moreover, the participants were able to explore research techniques, reliable sources, standpoints of each member-state, and how to craft impactful position papers. Lastly, participants engaged in a fruitful mock debate under the topic of “Combatting Disinformation Amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic” in a simulated World Health Organization setting. Here, the participants were given an opportunity to take part as a delegate of each distinct nation-state to collectively solve the global issues through the working system of the United Nations.
