BBA-SET’s Session on Sustainability’s Role in Business Success

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program of Mahidol University International College (MUIC) had the pleasure to host a special lecture in collaboration with the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) – ESG Academy and Sustainability Education Department. This was the 5th in a series of special sessions jointly organized by MUIC and SET on the theme of “Business Sustainability.”

The distinct event held on October 28, 2024 was dedicated to the importance of sustainability for businesses’ success and it featured two distinguished guest speakers from the industry, namely, Ms. Pannita Suttisawad, Sustainability Impact Reporting Manager at Thai Union Group PCL, and Ms. Ratinan Wongwatcharanon, Vice President of Investor Relations at Thai Credit Bank PCL.

Ms. Ratinan discussed the Thai Credit Bank’s focus on supporting micro SMEs and nano finance in Thailand, aiming to improve the quality of life for Thai people and promoting social empowerment of communities through financial literacy and sustainable management practices in micro segments. This approach benefits both customers and the bank, as financially informed, sustainable businesses ensure good risk management, reduce non-performing loans, and allow new opportunities for the bank.

Ms. Pannita outlined Thai Union’s 47-year history in seafood processing and its commitment to sustainability across its global supply chain. From sourcing ingredients and selecting packaging to factory operations and logistics, each decision prioritizes long-term sustainability. While some choices may cost more initially, they deliver medium- and long-term value, managing future risks and creating valuable opportunities in international markets.

This special lecture was a much participative and engaging workshop, in which business students and their lecturer were able to learn from the extensive professional experience of the guest speakers. It was also important that there was an extensive discussion on how future risks and opportunities can be connected with sustainable businesses practices.

MUIC and the BA Division express their deep appreciation of all the distinguished speakers as well as to the SET- Sustainability Education Department Team for this exceptional learning opportunity and look forward to welcoming them again in the near future.
