FAA & HLD Announce Winners of 48-hour Film and Photo Contest

By Bryan Ott, Ph.D.

Can you write, shoot and edit a 3-4-minute short film in 48 hours? What about creating a photography exhibition based on a given prompt and set of directions within that same timeframe?

The Fine and Applied Arts (FAA) Division and Humanities and Language Division (HLD) set that challenge in motion, and organized the 1st 48-hour Film and Photo Contest at Mahidol University International College (MUIC). The response and the quality of student submissions was outstanding. FAA and HLD would like to congratulate our winning filmmakers and photographers.

Taking the festival's Short Film Top Prize was B is for Box, written and directed by Techidpad Waisayawanich and Vittorio Witte.  The 2nd Place honors went to How to Do Spreadsheets by filmmakers, Poonjarasmi Thuanthong, Mari Mendi, and Phuriwat Kuntaro. 3rd Place was awarded to Santa created by Thanaphorn Phattarathada, Tat Sawattanaskul, and Rachaya Piyawatcharavijit.

The winner of the Street Photography category was a series from Yaowarat, depicting the vibrant night-time scenes, blending traditional and contemporary culture in one of the most dynamic and iconic parts of Bangkok. The contributors were Laura Harrison and Jaturapat Pinviset.

Congratulations to all our student filmmakers and photographers. Making a film and creating a photo exhibition in such a short period of time is no easy task and you all did it. We hope to see you again next year!
