HLD and FAA’s Arts and Culture Festival Opens with 48-hour Film and Photo Contest

The Fine and Applied Arts (FAA) Division and Humanities and Language Division (HLD) opened its 3-day Arts and Culture Festival on March 4, 2025 with the launch of the 48-hour Film and Photo Contest.

Students eager to compete gathered at Charinyarasami Hall at 12:00 noon as Dr. Bryan Ott, FAA Division Chair, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Matthew Ferguson, HLD Chair, explained the mechanics for both categories, namely, Short Film, and Street Photography.

After signing up and forming teams of 2-3 members each, the contestants then participated in a workshop where they worked out crucial details of their respective teams’ projects with guidance from Dr. Ott and Dr. Ferguson. For the next two days, they will have to shoot video footages and edit their short film or take photos, process them and get them ready for submission by noon of Thursday, March 6. An exhibition and screening of the entries would be held the following day, March 7, when the winners will be announced. Prizes await the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place winners along with those whose entries would be deemed of special note.

The launching of this competition was then followed by a Typography Workshop and a Dance Workshop. Other Arts and Culture Festival events (which has the theme “Flux” this year) in the succeeding days include more workshops, exhibitions, talks, contests, a podcast, film and video screenings, games and more.
