If you love matcha tea, you would definitely have heard about Koyo Tearoom, a matcha café located in Phutthamonthon Sai 3 Road owned and managed by MUIC alumna Ms. Thitiporn “Lukplub” Sriprasert and her partner.
“We aim to offer high-quality matcha drinks at affordable prices in a modern setting, providing an alternative to coffee. We also plan to supply top-notch matcha powder to support other cafes,” she said by way of introducing what their café offers.
Opening its doors in May 2024, Koyo Tearoom sports an elegant interior and mouth-watering matcha cakes and pastries to partner with their signature matcha drinks. Ms. Thitiporn and her partner’s business dream has come a long way from the time when they first conceptualized Koyo tea during the pandemic, selling their drinks via food apps and joining pop-up stores at several events. The numerous positive feedback they received from customers fueled their excitement leading to their decision to opening their very own matcha cafe.
Ms. Thitiporn said her student days at MUIC (she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics with a minor in Business Administration in 2017) prepared her as she pursued her dream to become an entrepreneur.
She said MUIC provided a strong support system, including true friends, dedicated teachers, and helpful staff. “Their support and guidance have been unwavering, making MUIC feel like a lifelong family,” she said.
Aside from that, she credits MUIC’s liberal arts education for teaching her “a synergistic approach to learning, while core values like determination, originality, and inclusion guided me to where I am today.”
And lastly, she said that “participating in activities at MUIC gave me invaluable experience working with diverse groups, serving as excellent preparation for the professional world.” And her advice for MUIC students who are seriously considering putting up their own business? “My passion has driven me to start this business,” she said. “People say, ‘Do what you love,’ but you won't love every part of it. There will be things you dislike that might slow you down. However, passion will keep you going.”
MUIC prepares its students for a successful career, with 17 majors that student applicants can choose from, each one a potential doorway that would lead them to their career goals.
