PC’s Covid-19 Response

By Leigh Pearson

Here at Mahidol University International College (MUIC) and our Preparation Center for Languages and Mathematics (PC), we recognize that the coronavirus is causing uncertainty, stress, and hardship. Understandably, many of you are worried about the future, and some of you may wonder if it is best to delay or avoid participating in certain activities, including education. As one of Thailand’s leading universities and international colleges, MUIC took our responsibility for student welfare seriously and took decisive action early on as one of the first universities to limit access to our campus in order to prevent the spread of the disease. Thankfully, some aspects of life are slowly opening up in a manner that allows life to return to some semblance of normal, but in a way that hopefully limits the chance of a second outbreak as we move forward.

Luckily, MUIC has for some time now been actively moving certain classes and materials online in order to keep up-to-date and make education as accessible as possible. This meant that we were able to move all our classes online with the minimum of fuss, and our students are currently attending classes and accessing all the same materials and information as before the crisis began. In fact, many students actually prefer studying online (although we wouldn’t necessarily agree that being able to wake up a bit later is a valid reason to support this style of learning).

Nevertheless, for the time being at least, classes are all online and available for our students from the comfort and safety of their own homes. Clearly, this is a different style of learning for many, and a lot of the responsibility is placed on the students’ shoulders in terms of not allowing themselves to be distracted at home. However, with less travel time and fewer social events and activities, it might actually be a beneficial time to focus on useful activities that can be conducted from home, and we believe nothing is more useful than education.

At MUIC and PC, we are fully committed to providing an outstanding academic experience for our students, whilst ensuring the safety and well-being of our entire community. As such, face-to-face instruction and class activities are conducted online using technology that can actually improve the learning experience compared to more traditional methods.

Arrangements for classes and other activities will, of course, be subject to changing conditions and government guidelines, but you can rest assured that every action we take will always be with the health and safety of our students and staff as the top priority.

The guidance on MUIC’s website will be updated on a regular basis and students preparing to study with us will also receive regular updates and guidance.
